Walk

The last word in private walks.

Relax into a full day walk across private land in coastal Wairarapa before staying overnight at The Last Resort.

The Perfect Overnighter

The Last Resort Walk is 11kms of well marked tracks and trails through bush, up hill and down dale from the station homestead to your overnight destination at The Last Resort.

After enjoying the sunrise from your bed and a good breakfast to get you set for the day, you can pull on your boots for the return trip.

The walk back to the homestead is about 10 kms. It follows a different route taking you to a high point over 400 meters above sea level with 360 degree views before descending to the Opouawe River and home.

The Last Resort Walk is on private land the whole time so there are no dusty public roads or speeding 4×4 vehicles to dodge.

A moderate level of fitness is required for walkers to enjoy Riversdale Station and you’ll definitely want your walking boots because it can get muddy underfoot at times and when crossing streams.

For serious walkers and mountain bikers there may be an option to extend your walk on day two and add an additional night’s accommodation at either The Ritz or The Lodge
(* subject to compatible accommodation availability).

The Game Trail

Some people may like to power up the hills, others like to take a more relaxed approach, stopping to look back at the scenery, let others catch up, have a conversation on the way and arrive at the top undaunted. With this in mind we have created The Game Trail.

The Game Trail is a walking game on the first section of The Last Resort Walk with simple clues to solve which will help get you to the top of the hill in easy stages.

Every walker contributes $10 towards a sweepstake, with a maximum prize of $5000 to the first drawn correct answer.

Game Number 1: Find the mole in the Mayor’s office and solve the mystery (not to be taken too seriously).

Pack What You Want, Not Just What You Need

This is not camping or glamping, so bring those extras that can make the difference. We will transport it for you (please be realistic, don’t bring your own bed).

You’ll need to carry a daypack with essentials such as wet weather clothing, food and water, but everything else will be transported and waiting for you at The Last Resort.

We recommend that even more experienced walkers have a look at the Gear List.
